A Wedding Band in Stainless Steel
For those of us who are rough on our wedding bands, I decided to make one from stainless steel. First my ring size is double checked, and since I am making it, I can make it a custom fit. First a starting point is needed, so check with the ring keys, and measure with the caliper.
The stump left from turning the balance wheel, was chucked in the three jaw. It was turned to an approximate final diameter, faced (both with a right hand carbide tool), center drilled and drilled to clear the boring tool.
The internal diameter is bored to size with a carbide boring tool (not shown).
The ring can now be parted off and the edges can be chamfered with the toolpost, but also with a file and lightly polished with emery.
